Cynthia Jackson-Hein » About the Artist

Cynthia Jackson-Hein - Biography Born in the near-wilderness of northern Manitoba, Canada, Cynthia Jackson raised her children in Winnipeg, then traded brutal winters for the allure of the California Wine Country. While she maintains a Canadian summer home on famous and beautiful Lake of the Woods, she has become an ardent and multi-talented participant in the lively Sonoma County arts scene. Soon after arriving in beautiful Sonoma County, California, Cynthia apprenticed herself with Lillian Schaie Mattimore, who reawakened her considerable artistic talent. While the North Coast is widely known for its visual beauty and world-class wines, it is equally deserving of its reputation for fine foods, and as the home of famous musicians and artists drawn by the quality of life.

Early on, she applied her love of nature to watercolors of wildlife and dogs, and studied under Adele Earnshaw and Joe Garcia. She soon found, however, that the greater semsuality and range of expression possible in working with oils drove her to that medium. She has since done graduate-level study at Art Academy University in San Francisco, and also studied under such internationally known artists as Michael Del Priore, Kathleen Dunphy, Everett Raymond Kinstler, Craig Nelson, Chris Newhard, and Burton Silverman.  At the Academy, her work has been selected for special display, and both her portrait and landscape work has been juried into their annual shows.

Cynthia never misses a chance to visit an art museum or collection. While she suggests this to everyone for increased knowledge, it can also be pure enjoyment. For her it is more than learning; it is understanding. Even better than seeing finished works, however, is the chance to watch an acknowledged expert. Among the contemporary masters whose live demonstrations have inspired her are William Draper, Daniel Greene,  David Leffel, John Howard Sanden, and Richard Schmid.

Cynthia has had one woman shows in USA and Canada, has been juried into a number of shows, and her works and portrait commissions hang in private collections in Canada, the USA, and Mexico. She accepts private commissions for portraits, particular landscapes, and pictures of favorite animals.
